I don't know why I find it so amusing but I do. With all of our modern marvels, things that would blow the colons out of the asses of those Civil War doctors with their meat cleavers and soggy bags of leeches, we still use medicines that we won't even really understand.

"Yeah we're pretty sure this stuff gets into the pores of your skin and kills bacteria but for some reason we just can't figure why. Pretty cool, huh?"

-John Smith, FDA

This begs another question. If an herb like St. John's Wort, which has been promoted throughout history as a health aid, has been dismissed by the FDA as impotent because its effects can't be scientifically proven, why is there so much stuff out there that "works like magic" (I'm simplifying things here)? It's an obvious double standard to me. It's money talking, is what it is. I'm not the first person to catch on to this (mwa ha, wouldn't that be grand if I was?) but it's something to think about.

I'm certain there's a fairly well publicized book out now concerning natural cures to common (and not so common) ailments that greedy people with a lot of (but not quite enough) money don't want you to know about. Might be worth a look.

Natural Cures..?

I don't know, man...I saw something on the Daily Show about the guy that wrote the book on natural cures. He was once a used-car salesman and he's been in jail before. Now he claims to be able to cure diseases with herbs and shit that modern medicine can't touch..makes me just a little suspicious. While I wouldn't have trouble believing that greedy pharmaceutical companies would want to cover up natural cures, I'm not sure if an ex-con is that much of an alternative.

Thanks for the heads up. I would have researched the author before buying such a book anyway, but you saved me some time.

Then again, it wouldn't have been much time wasted as merely googling his name brings up a whole lot of shit being slung his way. Somebody should write a book about his wrongdoings and call it:

"Fraudulent Crimes of Kevin Trudeau That He Doesn't Want You to Know About"

I think I read in Newsweek (I know I read, I think it was in Newsweek) that some of the "cures" he advocates are actually pretty dangerous, although I don't remember specifics. Er, he thinks sunscreen increases your chance of getting cancer from UV rays, possibly?

This comment is not as authoritative as I thought it would be. I'm here by way of [info], btw.
